About the heat loss survey + thermal imaging
Do I need a heat loss survey before a heat pump?
Yes. An MCS-certified heat pump installation — which the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant requires — has to be designed from a room-by-room heat loss calculation. This survey provides it, so the heat pump and radiators are sized properly.
Is the survey fee refunded?
If you go ahead with the work through LINX within 90 days, the survey fee is credited against your installation. If you don't, you still keep the report.
What do I need to do before the visit?
Make sure the surveyor can get into every room, the loft hatch and the boiler or heating controls. Recent energy bills are useful if you have them.
When is the best time for thermal imaging?
Thermal imaging works best when it's colder outside than in, so most surveys run from autumn to spring; we'll advise on timing when you book.
