Who we help · Insulation
In a bungalow, the roof and floor are a big share of the heat loss, because there's so much of both for the size of the home. Most from the 1950s–1980s have cavity walls, so the loft, the cavity and the floor are the usual measures — with room-in-roof for chalet and dormer bungalows.

Good to know
Bungalow lofts are large and often shallow at the eaves, so blown insulation can reach the corners rolls can't. The large loft area is why bungalow loft prices sit higher than for many houses.
Upstairs rooms in the roof need room-in-roof insulation — sloping ceilings, knee walls and dormer cheeks. It's often missed.
With the fabric insulated, bungalows suit heat pumps well, and single-storey EWI is quick to install where walls need it.
Recommended measures

Mineral wool laid between and across the joists to 270–300 mm so heat stays in the rooms below.

Loose-fill insulation blown into awkward, shallow or low-headroom lofts that rolls can't reach.

A borescope survey, then blown mineral wool or bonded bead injected into empty cavity walls.

Mineral wool or rigid board between the joists with an airtight membrane.

Insulating the sloping ceilings, stud walls, flat ceiling, gables and dormer cheeks of an attic room.

A complete certified build-up of insulation board, mesh and render from one system holder.

Insulating bay walls, dormer cheeks and window reveals to remove cold spots.

Sealing doors, windows, letterboxes, hatches, floorboards and unused chimneys — every home's quick win.

Start with the loft — it's a big share of a bungalow's heat loss — then cavity walls if they're empty, then the floor. Chalet bungalows also need room-in-roof insulation upstairs.
A bungalow's loft covers the whole footprint of the home, so there's more area to insulate than in a two-storey house of similar floor space.
Yes — the sloping ceilings, knee walls, flat ceiling and dormer cheeks are insulated as room-in-roof, with loft insulation in the eaves voids where they're accessible.
Often, yes — once the loft, walls and floor are insulated, the heat loss is low enough for a heat pump to work well. Our EPC planner ranks the steps for your home.
